Soy wax has many benefits and has been used for centuries in all kinds of candles and other products.
When it is burned in a way that allows the wax to release some of the oils that are concentrated in it, the resulting wax is infused with those scents and fragrances.
This wax also has the advantage of being a natural non-toxic, non-polluting wax.
Soy candles are some of the most popular candles in the world, due to their waxes ability to burn long and strong.
Because of its high melting point, it doesn’t react with the other ingredients it is used with, making it an ideal alternative to paraffin wax.
Soy wax is also Eco-friendly, and because of the strong scent it produces makes it a great candle for an area like a kitchen.
What is soy wax
If you’ve ever been curious about what wax is used in candles, then you’ve come to the right place. Soy wax is an alternative to beeswax and paraffin wax. It is made from the oil of soybeans and is the base for all soy wax candles.
It’s cured, which means it’s heated and cooled over and over again and is finally dried. Soy candles are a great way to add fragrance to your home. They’re also affordable and sustainable.
Soy wax is a soy-derived wax that is used as a candle base or candlewick. The majority of soy wax is produced in the United States, where it is grown on genetically engineered crops in the soybean fields of Indiana, Ohio, and North Carolina.
Soy wax is a byproduct of the soybean oil extraction process. After the oil is extracted from the soybean, the soybean meal—the portion of the soybean left after oil extraction—is fed to animals.
Soy candles have been around forever, but it’s only recently that they have been getting a lot of attention from both traditional and environmentally conscious candle lovers.
Soy candles are not only some of the most natural-smelling candles around, but they are also lighter than most other candles, burn longer, and are a much more sustainable option to wood and beeswax candles.
There are two types of soy wax:
- One type is made from soybean oil – The oil wax is a lot easier to make because it is already mixed with additives and it burns faster.
- The other type is made from soybean seeds – The seed wax also burns faster and makes a stronger scent.
The candle making process
- Measure two cups of soy wax and two cups of paraffin wax to a large heat-proof mixing bowl.
- Set the water in a saucepan over high heat and bring it to a boil. The water should be boiling vigorously when you add the waxes.
- Place the mixing bowl over the saucepan, and add the waxes.
- Stir the wax until it melts, and then remove the bowl from the pot.
- Add in any extra scents, colorants, or additives, and stir until the contents of the bowl are well mixed.
- Pour the liquid candle mixture into the prepared candle molds, making sure to fill them all the way up to the top.
- Cover the candle mold with aluminum foil, and set the mold down on a level surface.
- Place the candle mold in the freezer and allow it to freeze for at least 24 hours.
- After at least 24 hours, remove the aluminum foil from the candle mold and set it aside.
- Pour the remaining liquid wax into the candle mold using a spoon and allow it to cool for at least 24 hours.
After 24 hours, you now have your own soy-scented candle. They don’t have the same scent as the candles you buy from the store, but they burn pretty good and the aroma stays around for a long time. I’m sure you’ll like them, and you’ll be able to make them for yourself, too.
Top 3 tips to make scented soy candles smell more
1. Add fragrance at the right temperature
The smell of the candles will last longer if you add the essential oils at the right time.
If you’re looking for the best way to add fragrance to your candles, you have to add it at the right temperature. The best way to do that is to melt the fragrance in the wax so that the essential oils can be evenly distributed.
2. Use the right amount of fragrance oil
Whether you want to create a room-filling fragrance in the home or simply want to enjoy the smell of your favorite candles, proper fragrance oil use is essential to make your candle scents work at their best.
The fragrance is one of the most difficult things to work with. If you do it wrong, it can give a bad impression about your art. A blend of the right amount of oil, the right type of candle wax, and the right type of fragrance will help you get the perfect scent.
The strength of the scent can be adjusted by adding more or less amount of essential oil.
3. Keep it lit long enough.
In order to make the candle’s scent last longer, and to make the wax burn at a slower rate, leave some of the wick exposed.
This leaves the candle’s flame burning longer, which in turn burns the wick down more slowly, so the scent of the wax isn’t diminished as quickly.
